Engagement Sessions

Why take engagement photos?

First, engagement sessions allow you get to capture the joy and excitement of who you are as a couple before you’re Mr & Mrs! You are able to showcase your unique relationship in a relaxed setting while spending time with your favorite person. You get to choose the location, your clothing, and the style that represents you as a couple. Engagement sessions sometimes show a more authentic reflection of who you are than your wedding photos do. Years from now, you won’t regret looking back at these photos and realizing how young and in love you looked.

Next, unless you’re both models, then you probably aren’t completely at ease in front of the camera. Learning how to pose or when to smile can be awkward. This session allows you to loosen up in front of the camera without the added pressure of wedding day butterflies. An engagement session is like a trial run for the wedding day, plus you’ll learn many of the poses that we’ll do again on your wedding day.

Engagement photos are important for sentimental reasons, but a new set of photos can be essential in your planning process. If you plan to build a wedding website, mail out save-the-dates, design a guest book, or share updates on social media, these images will be useful to you.

And lastly, one of my favorite reasons for engagement sessions is that you get to know your photographer. Besides your spouse, your photographer will probably be the person you spend the most time with on your wedding day. Establishing a relationship with before the big day is important. We’ll have a chance to swap stories, share laughs, and get to know each other on a personal level, which will help the wedding day to run that much smoother.

When you book with me, you gain access to my client hub where you can explore my style guides, location suggestions, and my calendar for choosing a session date. My style guides gives detailed suggestions on what to wear, how to coordinate colors, what looks best on both men and women, and much more. It's a must see for planning your session! And my locations page highlights various areas around Colorado Springs that I photograph at regularly.

“And I’d choose you;
in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality,
I’d find you and I’d choose you.”

Bridal Sessions

A bridal portrait session is a fairly old and specifically Southern tradition that began in Europe. This session focuses solely on the bride and takes place well before the wedding day. She is photographed in her wedding dress with all her accessories, and she might also have her hair and makeup done by the same person she is planning on using for her wedding day. The resulting bridal photos are often kept secret, and in many cases a large print from the session is displayed at the wedding reception.

So what are the practical reasons for doing a bridal session?

First, you get to choose if there is anything about your final look you want to change. If something that isn’t how you quite imagined it, like perhaps your makeup look is too dark or your hair style doesn’t work with your veil, now is the time to adjust things.

Second, just like in an engagement session, bridal sessions give you more experience in posing. You’ll get one-on-one time with your photographer, and get to practice moving and posing in your wedding gown - no guesswork on your big day!

And lastly, you get to focus on looking beautiful and not worry about a timeline. You’ll spend much time planning out your bridal look that taking a few hours to capture all your hard work is an easy decision.
